Buying cover & vessel details
  • A purpose-built facility for the safe keeping of recreational craft only, whose facilities include but are not limited to refuelling, repairs and boat handling, chandlers, personal hygiene, retail and hospitality venues.

  • We can provide cover for more than just your standalone vessel.

Along with your vessel, you will have the option to cover any accompanying tenders, outboards, liferafts, trailers or contents during the quote stage.

You can get started with a quote at: Get a Quote.

  • It is important to go through our full policy wording before purchasing cover. This way you know exactly what you are, or aren't, covered for.

All of our policy wording and other information documents can be found on the dedicated page.

  • Already have insurance with ourselves but looking for a quote on a new vessel?

If you have a new vessel to insure and want to keep your existing vessel covered, you can simply get a new quote at: https://quote.gjwdirect.com/

If you need to swap the vessel on your existing policy, please submit a request to us on our contact page.

  • Want to get a quote for your vessel? Just follow these simple steps below.

You can get started with a quote at: Get a Quote.

Then just select the type of vessel you are looking to insure and fill out all the screens of our online form.

You will need an email address for us to be able to give you a quote.

  • We require a full out-of-water survey carried out by a qualified marine surveyor when a craft is 30 years old.

A full survey should be an exhaustive inspection covering every detail affecting the boat’s condition and safety, including a thorough evaluation of the hull, all onboard systems, the structural integrity of all components, the extent of existing problems, suggestions for upgrades and needed repairs, with the surveyor's recommendations stipulated with time scales. We would require an ultrasonic hull plate thickness report for a steel hull. We also require an estimate of the vessel’s Current Market Value.

We may accept a survey that has been carried out within the last 10 years, provided it is in English, and all the above conditions are met.

Please keep a copy of your survey safe, as we would only need you to provide a copy to us in the event of making a claim.

  • Unsure if you are answering this question correctly?

Years’ experience is how long you have been using a similar vessel of the same length and type and within similar cruising areas as the one you are looking to insure.

You do not need to have owned the vessel yourself, it may be you gained your experience using another person’s vessel.

  • Have valuable personal items on board that you would like to protect? We can help with that.

If you have items you want covered under the personal property section of your policy that are over £500 or £1000 (depending on your vessel type) then these will need to be explicitly specified when completing the relevant section of your quote.

If you would like to add this cover to your policy, please visit our Contact Us page to find the best way to get in touch with our team.

If your policy has already started but you have decided that the cover is not right for you, you may cancel the policy within our 14-day ‘cooling-off’ period. We will return any premium you have paid, minus a charge for the number of days you have been on cover.

Outside of the cooling-off period? You may cancel your policy at any time, and we will return any premium due back to you for the unused days remaining on your policy period.

Please be aware that a cancellation fee would be deducted from any refund of premium due when cancelling outside of the cooling-off period.

You can pay for your policy with the following methods:

    • Visa
    • Visa Debit

    • Debit Mastercard

If you are paying for the policy on a monthly basis, you will have a credit agreement with Premium Credit Ltd. As your payments are requested by Premium Credit, you would need to contact them directly to update your Direct Debit details. You can reach them on: 0344 736 9836.

  • Premium Credit is the leading premium finance company in the UK and Ireland.

When you choose to pay for your insurance policy with us on a monthly basis, your credit agreement will be provided by Premium Credit.

Please note: A credit search will be carried out, which will leave a footprint. Interest charges apply.

  • If you need to discuss your Premium Credit agreement please contact Premium Credit on 0344 736 9836.

  • If you have chosen to pay for your insurance policy monthly, there are fees applicable for missed payments or if your credit agreement has not been completed.

If you are seeing any additional fees on your statement and have a monthly instalment plan with Premium Credit, you will need to contact them on 0344 736 9836.

  • The reason for having 2 monthly payments around the same time is that these are the first 2 out of your 10 monthly payments for your policy.

When a policy renews with the monthly payment option selected, our partners at Premium Credit will collect the first 2 out of the 10 monthly payments from you around the same day.

This is due to the first payment after renewal taking up to 10 working days to be set up; your payments then continue as normal on the usual payment date. This means that the first 2 payments will be taken close together or even on the same day.

Please be assured that this does not impact the cost of your insurance in any way, and you would now have only 8 monthly payments remaining this year.

Claims
  • Have you suffered theft, loss or damage to your vessel and need to make a claim?  See below for the necessary steps to take to make a claim.

Please contact our dedicated claims team at Crawford & Company using the options below:

    Email: gjwclaims@crawco.co.uk

    Telephone: 0800 668 1114

Post: GJW Claims c/o Crawford and Company, The Hallmark Building, 106 Fenchurch Street, London, EC3M 5JE

  • The claim form provided is a general form covering many types of incidents.

Please provide as much information as you can regarding the incident.

However, if you do not know the answers to the questions asked or they do not apply to the incident for which you wish to make a claim, leave the question blank or answer N/A (not applicable).

  • We usually ask you to provide 2 estimates so that we can compare the costs submitted by repairers.

Please make every effort to comply with this requirement.

We do appreciate that in some circumstances you will only be able to provide 1 estimate. If this is the case, don’t worry, send this estimate, and if we require any further information, we will let you know.

Please ensure that all estimates are issued in your name as the contract for repair is between you and the repairer.

  • Once we have received your claim form, estimates and any other supporting documentation, your file will be allocated to a handler.

They will then decide whether, based upon the value and/or complexity of your particular claim, a surveyor is required to inspect damage.

If we appoint a surveyor, they will contact you to arrange a convenient time for inspection.

  • Any cost incurred in inspection of your vessel by the surveyor will be paid for by us.

  • You will need to obtain a pro forma invoice from your repairer for the deposit amount requested and submit it to us for payment.

You should ensure that the deposit request is issued in your name as the contract for repair is between you and the repairer.

  • If you wish us to pay the repairers directly, send the invoice to us along with confirmation that you are satisfied with the repairs and provide us with the repairers' nominated bank account details if they have not already done so on their invoice.

If you pay the repairers directly, then let us know that this is what you have done and provide us with your nominated bank account details, and we will reimburse you.

Please ensure that invoices are made out in your name as the contract for repair is between you and the repairer.

  • If you have asked us to pay repairers directly, then you will need to settle the amount of your excess with them. We will pay the remaining balance.

If you have asked us to reimburse you, then we will pay you net of your policy excess.

You can pay your policy excess to us by bank transfer. Please visit our Contact Us page to find the best way to get in touch with our team and request our bank account details.

  • Once we have received invoices and bank account details for transfer of funds, it takes 3 to 5 working days to be processed through the banking system and to arrive in the recipient's bank account.

Please note that payments being transferred outside the UK may take a little longer.

  • We can settle invoices in all currencies, but we will need the repairers' BIC and IBAN to transfer funds to their accounts.

Repairers are fully aware of this requirement and will produce the necessary details upon request if they do not already appear on their invoice.
